South Texas Electric Cooperative, Inc. currently has a position open for a Construction Crew at its Nursery, Texas location. The Construction Crew performs construction of substations, communications, and headquarters’ projects. Unloads and loads materials, reads plans and specifications, tends machines and mixes and pours concrete. Operates hand and power tools of all types: air hammers, earth tampers, cement mixers, small mechanical hoists, surveying and measuring equipment and a variety of other equipment and instruments. Cleans and prepares sites, digs trenches, sets braces to support the sides of excavations, erects scaffolding and cleans up rubble, debris, and other materials. This position reports to the Construction Foreman.
Qualified candidates will have:
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• 1+ years’ experience in construction
• Valid Texas Driver’s License and acceptable MVR
• Class A CDL-must be obtained within 180 days of employment
• MS Dynamics
Working conditions:
• Lifts and carries up to 80 pounds and pulls, pushes, or drags up to 80 pounds with or without assistance.
• Sits, stands, stoops or twists for extended periods of time.
• Works both indoors and outdoors in extreme temperatures including heat, cold, humidity, temperature swings and inclement weather, frequent exposure to dust, odor, electrical, mechanical, loud noise, and toxic hazards.
• Operates hand tools, heavy equipment, light trucks, power tools and other equipment.
• 20/20 corrected vision is required to perform visual inspection of small defects, small parts and operation of measurement devices and assembly of fabricated parts.
• Ability to travel to and from business related locations.
• May be required to work after hours, weekends and holidays and respond timely to urgent or emergency situations.
Typical duties include:
• Participates in tailgate, department, and company safety meetings.
• Reads, understands, and marks up prints and diagrams.
• Constructs forms for slabs and foundations, pours, and finishes concrete.
• Erects buildings and structures.
• Safely operates vehicles, machinery, and construction tools.
• Installs grounding and underground conduit.
• Pulls and terminates wiring.
• Paints, repairs, replaces, and maintains substation, communications, and headquarters facilities.
• Monitors and aids in training new hires.
• Safely operates backhoes, tractors, bobcats, trenchers, etc. and supervises such operations.
• Performs other duties, tasks and special projects as assigned.
