South Texas Electric Cooperative, Inc. currently has a position open for a Communications/SCADA Technician at its Pearsall, Texas location. The Communications/SCADA Technician programs, installs, and performs maintenance of radios, antennas, remote terminal units and associated equipment. Performs termination testing and splicing of fiber optic cables. Determines and fixes issues when technical difficulties arise. Responsible for telephone communications and voice and data communications systems. This position reports to the SCADA Technician Foreman.
Typical Duties
- Proficiently uses hand, power tools, meters, and other test equipment to install, maintain, repair microwave radios, phone equipment, wave guide and antennas.
- Applies, reads, understands, and corrects schematic and wiring diagram blueprints.
- Programs and troubleshoots radios, channel banks and phone systems and coordinates check out with System Operations and other departments.
- Participates in 7-day emergency callout rotation.
- Aligns and maximizes the performance of microwave antennas.
- Inspects and maintains antenna towers, downguys and lighting.
- Programs remote terminal units and checks operation with System Operations.
- Troubleshoots and repairs remote terminal units and connections to equipment.
- Participates in 7-day emergency callout rotation.
- Tests, programs, and maintains SCADA master equipment.
- Terminates fiber optic cables and tests fiber communications.
- Practices all safety procedures pertaining to all aspects of Technical Services work as outlined in the South Texas Electric Cooperative safety handbook.
- Performs other duties, tasks and special projects as assigned.
Working Conditions
- Lifts and carries up to 50 pounds and pulls, pushes, or drags up to 80 pounds with or without assistance.
- Sits, stands, stoops or twists for extended periods of time.
- Works both indoors and outdoors in extreme temperatures including heat, cold, humidity, temperature swings and inclement weather, frequent exposure to dust, odor, electrical, mechanical, loud noise, and toxic hazards.
- Operates hand tools, heavy equipment, light trucks, power tools and other equipment.
- 20/20 corrected vision is required to perform visual inspection of small defects, small parts and operation of measurement devices and assembly of fabricated parts.
- Ability to travel to and from business-related locations.
- May be required to work after hours, weekends and holidays and respond timely to urgent or emergency situations.
